The Carrier Wood Flight Deck Sections comprise either 4 or 6 deck sections (depending on scale) cut from 1/16" basswood and are the approximate assembled size listed below. These deck section are representative of the typical wood deck found on the Pre-War Imperial Japanese Navy Aircraft Carriers. The deck is based on the few photos that survived the sinking of the six Pearl Harbor carrier.

American eyewitness observations at the battle of Midway in June 1942 universally reported the Japanese carriers to be in high visibility scheme of a medium warm brown with white markings and a "bright red meatball" on the bow. Hasegawa recommend using Gunze Sanyo color #H44 Tan Ship Deck (I think the bottle actually say Light Flesh) for the deck of their 1/350 Akagi kit. The illustration below shows a much darker deck, approximating Model Master #1736 Leather, but I think a 75/25 mix of H44 with H318 Radome Tan produces a better light wood color. The deck markings should be H11 Flat White for the deck stripes and H13 Flat Red for the Hinomaru if desired. These colors are totally subjective and are my interpretations of the written accounts and painting of the action.

The deck of Akagi is shown:
