The Silversides was one of the more famous boats during the war. Under the leadership of Commanders Burlingame, Coye and Nichols the boat sank 23 Japanese vessels for a tonnage total of 90,080 tons, ranking the boat and crew in the top five for both categories during the war.
This conversion is applicable for a wide number of government built boats in the last half of the war, featuring the ultimate Gato class cut-down - the so-called "Covered Wagon" style of cut-downs. This kit includes all the parts you will need to convert the Gato class sub into this variant. USS Trigger was an equally effective unit during the war. Under four skippers she amassed a total of 18 ships for 86,552 tons, tied for eighth in numbers and was seventh in tonnage. This version can be made with the included squared forward gun platform & the included ammo storage cans.
