72-015 USS AMBERJACK SS-219 1942
The USS Amberjack was a boat that had a short but significant career. Arriving in the South West Pacific in the summer of 1942, she saw her services needed more as a transport than as a hunter. Aberjack was attached to Commander, Southt Pacific Air Forces (ComAirSoPac) and was immediately used to ferry aviation fuel, personnel and bombs to the beleaguered aircrews fighting on Guadalcanal. This action earned her the title of the only submarine in the Pacific to act as a tanker! Captain Bole managed to sink two ships plus several smaller vessels while operation in support of the Solomons campaign before the Japanese managed to sink Amberjack in February 1942.
THE RESIN CONVERSION SET
We have not found any photos of Amberjack after she left the US to go into the War Zone. The model is designed to represent the early flight of Electric Boat GATOs as they were initially designed and constructed. The kit does give one the option of removing the cigarette deck side plating to modify the sub into the most likely configuration of the Fleet Boats for late 1942.
The resin in this set consists of the following pieces:
Main Fairwater | Main Induction Valve | Main Ventilation Valve | Signal Bridge (lookout platform) |
Bridge Locker | Binnacle | Binnacle Top | Periscope Shears |
Large Signal Siren | Small Signal Siren | Control Wheel | Control Wheel Linkage |
Trim Wheel | Trim Wheel Linkage | Bridge Top | Pilot's Seats |
Pilots Step | Lookout Step | Bench | Gunners Step |
Siren Handle | Masthead Light & Mast | DF Loop & Mast | |
